My concept art venture is called LassalMedia. At present, LassalMedia is the main pillar financing my life just as my pro bono project Fingeralphabet.org, which itself was born out of a LassalMedia-project.
I started LassalMedia many years ago (more or less by accident) while I was still a student. And I started it by pretending I was a man. According to rumors at that time only diper and baby-food layouts were assigned to female concept artists, and that was something I simply could not risk. There was no internet worth its name back then and I actually did not know any other illustratores to ask if the rumors were true. So I basically started working nationally under the assumed name “Sam Mark”, an artist who was always so busy that his assistant (=me) had to take the calls and make the arrangements.
That was a fun time. It was also pretty transparent for my clients after a while and we joked about this a lot. Basically, once they knew I was fine with drawing cars and space stations, I could have been an alien for all they cared. So “Sam Mark” became “LassalMedia” after a couple of months (and we still joke about it – some of my long term clients still call me the “assistent”).
Feel free to visit the site and look around. It has changed a bit in the last months, as I am slowly turning the wheels to adjust for a new direction. It is still fun. I can live out my ecclectic soul. And yes, I simply (and still) love to draw.
